Pretzels, one of the oldest snack foods will be celebrated this Sunday May 26th, aka National Pretzel Day. Pretzels weren’t always snack foods.
Originally, or how the story goes, a monk in Italy had created the pretzel around 610. He would bake dough, and then would fold them to look like children crossing their arms during prayer. Then if the child memorized their prayer he would provide the child with a “pretiolas” or “little reward”. For more about the history of pretzels visit Today I Found Out – History of Pretzels.
Fast-forwards into the future, there are so many different pretzel companies, stands and flavors. Even with the different companies, there are only two different types hard and soft. But even then there are so many different ways to fold, flavor and cut.
